This is a “supposed” magazine article from a 1955 “Housekeeping Monthly”, titled “The Good Wife’s Guide”. It has been in circulation by fax and e-mail since the 1980’s. Fabricated or not, I for one am glad none of it sticks with us today. Ladies, you will most likely want to roll your eyes to most of these “guidelines”. I am so glad to be an independant, self sufficient woman in this day and age!

Cost of the average Daycare: depending on where you live, it can cost anywhere between $600-$1600 a month. In an article in the Vancouver Sun, Paul Kershaw is even quoted to say that “it costs about $700 per week for full-day child care for a three- to five-year-old across the province on average, with prices in Metro Vancouver closer to $1,000.” YIKES!

4 Foods to NEVER eat

2. Wheat

Very Hard To Avoid, But Try It Out And See How You Feel!

Most people are not full blown Celiacs (who need to avoid wheat entirely), but the majority of people would find improvements to their health and bodyfat by testing eliminating wheat for several weeks, and taking note of how they feel, look, and their measurements.

I know it’s a hard thing to do since a HUGE portion of the modern western diet is made from wheat products, but I’ve found it’s quite easy to do at home once you get used to it. Dining out is a different story. Personally, I choose to almost entirely avoid wheat in all of my meals at home.
I only dine out occasionally, or on vacations, so that’s the only time when I eat wheat.

3. Soda or sweetened drinks (including commercial juices)

Out of The Options I See Here, I Would Choose the Bottom One if I Were You

If you care about your body at all, there’s just no reason to consume soda in any amount. It’s pure sugar (or worse, high fructose corn syrup), has ZERO nutrition, and has many other issues related to the additives, acids, etc.

In addition, the consumption of this calorically-dense but nutritionally-absent liquid actually makes your body crave more food, because you consumed calories without consuming any nutrients.

It also spikes your blood sugar out of whack causing wild blood sugar swings and additional cravings. I’m always amazed how many people tell me that they are desperately trying to lose wt, but yet I see them drinking a soda. I don’t get it.

4. Anything deep fried (or anything with trans fats)

If you study some of the biochemical reactions that take place in the body of humans after consuming trans fats, you would realize this is essentially a poison. It’s not a poison that’s going to kill you immediately, but it’s a poison that causes inflammation throughout the body, and even detrimentally affects all of your cell membranes (remember from bio101 that your cell membranes need fats for their composition, and trans fats disrupt healthy cell membranes).

I’ve found that if I can get people to view trans fats as the true POISON that they really are, they finally realize the importance of avoiding them ENTIRELY… and to stop poisoning their kids too by allowing them to eat deep fried foods (especially important for kids to avoid trans fats since it can impair development)

Choosing the right home based business for you and your unique situation can get tiresome.

Is This You On Your Online Business Search?

You are constantly pulled this way and that to hand over your hard earned cash for the “next best thing”.

First of all you are going to want to decide how bad you want to quit your day job and how much time and money you have to invest in yourself. You will fail at any home based business opportunity if you do not apply yourself.

Are you at all technical or would you have to start from scratch? You want a trustworthy company that will teach you the basics as well as the ropes of the industry. You want to look for an established company with a group of like-minded entrepreneurs who truly want to help you succeed. You must learn to be self-motivated (if you aren’t already) in order to start a home based business. What you are going to want to do is research.

Find out what is out there and make sure you are going to get in on something you are going to be proud to tell people about. Would you actually use the products you are trying to get other people to buy?

You will want to choose a home based business that will help you figure out how to position yourself as a a leader. You have found a good business to suit your desires when people will want to join you side by side to help achieve a common goal.

Would you want to help people be financially FREE, and create their dream lifestyle?

I have found that it doesn’t get much better than helping people obtain their goal of the freedom to live HOW they want WHEN they want and even WHERE they want. If you want to become another statistic and sell people useless material items for momentary happiness, then look somewhere else. If you want to be a serious entrepreneur with no overhead, no employees, no inventory, no commuting or paying for gas to get to work and no depending on someone else for your income, then at least you know what you DON’T want!

First…I will lay down the facts.

There are more than just A FEW people in this world who have a little thing called CALLER ID. A huge amount of those people will screen their calls and not answer if they do not know who is calling them.

“But Amber, they gave me their number on my landing page!”

SO WHAT…most people just think it is mandatory so they can get to that “talked about” second page and additional information. If you are like myself who is running an online business for the purpose of direct sales, you may not have your telephone account set up reflecting your business name, indicating you are making a “friendly” call.

These people have obviously sparked SOME interest in your site, but that does not mean they know what they are getting into when they provide their number.

If you want to gauge someone’s interest as a potential customer or business associate, you could shoot them a quick personal e-mail. And I do not mean let your autoresponder do the work for you. A SEPARATE, personal e-mail—short and sweet. At this point, you have given another call to action and they can respond at their own convenience.

Call them when they prove their worthiness or have arranged a specific time to hear from you!

When I first wanted in on this online marketing gig, I thought to myself “Am I the entrepreneurial type?”
Many people out there wonder if they have what it takes to duke it out in the competitive world of internet marketing.

“An entrepreneur is a person of very high aptitude who pioneers change, possessing characteristics found in only a very small fraction of the population.”

Is This You?

The word entrepreneur originates from the French word, entreprendre, which means “to undertake.” The Merriam-Webster Dictionary defines the entrepreneur as one who organizes, manages, and assumes the risks of a business or enterprise.

There seems to be a problem with this dictionary definition. People want a business they can succeed at without much risk involved. This is part of the new-aged “give me everything faster, better and for the best price” attitude.

The majority of serious people looking to start a business online want to to trust in something with a good track record. This does take research, but if you were going to invest a good chunk of change in something, doing your homework is worth it!
Being an entrepreneur is all about the mindset. You may hear this a lot in your travels, but it’s true in more ways I can list here. From entrepreneur.com, here are some of the characteristics an entrepreneur must have in order to be successful:

~Do what you enjoy. Among other things, people will hear the enthusiasm in your voice!

~Take what you do seriously. How can anyone else if you don’t?

~Plan everything. This is where writing down your daily/monthly and yearly goals comes in. It might not be as easy to do at first, but the more you practice, the easier it will get!

~Become a shameless self-promoter (without becoming obnoxious). Master web 2.0, and you get yourself out there! When you brand yourself, no one can take that from you!

~Become known as an expert. This is where writing articles, blogs and creating YouTube videos play a big role.

~Invest in yourself. Always be game for educating yourself. Just learning html is a good step in making yourself more valuable.
*Some of the books I have enjoyed reading lately are: Hypnotic Writing by Joe Vitale, The Ultimate Sales Letter by Dan Kennedy and The Seven Decisions to Personal Success by Andy Andrews.

~Design your workspace for success. You must have a room where you can block everything else out to get what you need done in a day.

~Take time off. This one is my favourite, because everyone needs a little down time! You should develop some kind of fixed working schedule even if you want to start part time.

There are many traits an entrepreneur must have in order to be successful.
That doesn’t mean you must possess all of them to get started. If you have the desire to work from home, take the time to make it so.
There will be times if discouragement, but you’ll need to focus on the small milestones and the achievements you make along the way. It keeps things fun and interesting!
Once you meet one goal, set another!

Are you the “entrepreneurial” type? It takes a strong person to make that initial decision to go for it, but that doesn’t mean you have to quit your job right away.

To quote Jim Rohn,

Success is neither magical or mysterious. Success is the natural consequence of consistently applying the basic fundamentals.

Are you wondering weather or not you should upgrade to the new Windows 7 operating system?
Do you have Windows Vista and were you disappointed with the value you received?
Were you DISGUSTED when Vista came on every new computer out there whether anyone wanted it or not?
Were you or did you know one of the many who chose to PAY MORE for the option to downgrade to Windows XP because of its ease to use and reliability?

…Or are you one of the few who don’t mind waiting the extra time for your computer to start up?
…Do people only want Windows 7 because it is the next “must-have” system?

If you are weighing the decision to get this new operating system and you do not care about all the technical mumbo jumbo, then
LOOK NO FURTHER.

Most people will not care either way as long as they can do the same stuff they were doing before but with less issues. I should know, as I am one of those people.

I figure there are thousands of people out there like myself who are wondering how this may or may not affect them. I bought a new Sony Vaio laptop from Future Shop two months ago, so I was promised a free upgrade to Windows 7. What I wanted to know was, will I be able to switch over to this new operating system easily? Do I get to keep all my files and everything else downloaded on my computer, or will everything be gone? I did some research and this is what I found…

From Wikipedia I first found out about the new features. I sifted through all the pages just to find there are only a few I actually care about.

For starters, there will be improved boot performance—-THANK THE STARS!!! I don’t know about the rest of the people specifically using Vista, but I for one did not think it would take as long as it does to get to working on something after my computer is turned on with a BRAND NEW COMPUTER!

I found on one site that the average start up time from post to first view of the desktop screen is 3 minutes, 15 seconds. WOW.
(For those of you who also don’t know what post means, it stands for Power On Self Test and it is a check to make sure your computer is ok to begin loading your operating system. It’s the part of the process that will let your computer finish starting up and if there is a problem with one or more components you will see that dreaded blue or black screen.)

There will now also be access from the start menu all of the items us “average folk” recognize as plug-in devices, as well as printers. This will take you to options pertaining to these external devices faster and replaces the previous control panel function just titled “Printers”. You will now be able to control options regarding things like microphones, cameras and fax machines from this easier-to-find location.

There is also the ever-talked about feature of the touch screen, which sounds really good in theory but I’d advise getting a protection film specifically for your screen to increase the longevity of it.

I just talked to a guy at Future Shop in Kelowna today who told me that when you switch over to the new system, all programs and files gets switched over AUTOMATICALLY!

YES!

One of my favourite applications, Calculator, has gotten a facelift as well. They have added features called programmer and statistics mode, as well as unit conversion and date calculation. This is great, as I have more than once had to Google for conversions from grams to teaspoons for my baking. This will happen no more! It will now be similar to a good quality scientific calculator. Check out how it looks now!

For unknown purposes then and now, internet spades, backgammon and checkers are now back on Windows 7 as they were removed from Vista. This was just amusing to me, but I love spades, so bring it on!

My conclusion is that if you are satisfied with Vista or XP (XP being my fav by FAR) and you don’t need to follow the rest of the sheep, simply don’t get it.

On the other hand, if you’re buying a new computer and it comes with it, fantastic!

What happens in Vegas, STAYS in Vegas

Last week I was honored to be at the Master Marketing event of the year, in Las Vegas Nevada.
Yes, as beautiful as the city was, I have to say that I have never been more thankful to be living in Canada!

Everything about the city of lights was amazing, except for one thing I found…all the smoking allowed in the hotels! I dont know how EVERY hotel in the city operates, but the one I stayed at allowed smoking in most places in the building. (I wont name it out of respect for their chain)

Upon my arrival to the hotel, I was already feeling like death. Imagine pretty much hacking up a lung and then you are subjected to the mixture of smells of all the raunchy kinds of tobacco you can think of. Walking into the lobby was like walking past someone who put on WAY too much of their favourite perfume or cologne—a choking kind of smell you can’t get away from until its almost too late!

Second-hand smoke contains cancer-causing and other toxic substances that are often in greater concentrations than in the smoke inhaled by the smoker. Some chemical compounds found in smoke only become carcinogenic after they’ve come into contact with certain enzymes found in many of the tissues of the human body, so the smoke that is breathed out may be worse than the smoke breathed in by the smoker through the cigarette.

I am particularly grateful to my British Columbia laws. The first law came into effect on August 1st, 2001 in Victoria. Smoking was banned in all workplaces and public spaces, with no allowance for designated smoking rooms.

It then progressed to a provincewide ban in 2008 and you can’t smoke in public places like restaurants, bars, bingo halls, bowling alleys and casinos.

the atmosphere in there is one to remember!

Now, they have taken it EVEN FURTHER, (which gets me as giddy as a little school girl) and British Columbia outlawed citizens from lighting a cigarette in a vehicle in the presence of a person under the age of 16.

Plane ticket and 2 night hotel stay—>$450.
Food, gambling and cab rides——–>$500.
Being able to breathe fresh air again without being
forced to process other people’s dirty habit—>PRICELESS!
